August Newsletter, Policies and AGM

Lions Running Community

August 2022 Update

The Lions Running Community AGM was held on Wednesday 27th July at the Golden Lion in Wheelton.

We would just like to update everyone on some important items that you should all be aware of.

Club Policies

At Lions Running Community (LRC), we have a number of policies and processes in place to support and protect everyone in the club, whether they are coaches, leaders or Runners.

We have a Duty of Care to all of our members, whether affiliated or not.  Our Duty of Care policy is part of the clubs Constitution and is also covered by the England Athletics (EA) Code of Conduct.   We are asking everyone who runs with Lions Running Community, to follow the Code of Conduct.

Part of the Duty of Care and Code of Conduct covers the welfare of everyone in the club.

Should anyone have any concerns or issues, we would urge you to contact one of the clubs welfare officers. They will treat your concerns or complaints in a confidential manner and will escalate them, if required, to the appropriate body. They can be contacted via email or in person on a club night.

  • Fiona Alderton – Feefs@live.co.uk
  • Tim Nuttall - timnut35@hotmail.com

We also have adopted the current EA policies for Inclusion, Safeguarding and GDPR.

We also have in place a specific Health & Safety policy for LRC.

All of the policies will shortly be made available in the FILES section of the LRC Facebook Group. Should you wish to read the LRC Constitution, or any of the clubs policies before we post them up, please email us at lionsrunningcommunity@yahoo.com

Booking onto run sessions

A quick reminder, that if you haven’t already done so, it would be really useful if you could create a sign-in at our page on the runtogether.co.uk website and add us to your group list by clicking on the "add this page to my groups" link below.

  • Although we don’t insist on this, it is helpful if you can pre-book onto sessions as it gives us a good idea of how many people are likely to turn up, and that allows us to ensure that we have enough run leaders to keep the sessions as safe as possible. It also provides us with 3rd party liability cover, should the worst ever happen. You can book as many sessions into the future.
  • You can book on via our website https://clubspark.englandathletics.org/Lionsrunningcommunity or via the mobile app, details below
  • You can also download the RUNNER App to make signing in even easier:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details...

https://itunes.apple.com/.../runtogether-runner/id1447488812

  • There is no cost for this. It just provides you with the ability to book onto runs (which means you will get an update if there are any changes to venue or cancellations) and allows you to share your In Case of Emergency (ICE) details with the run leaders, although we hope we don’t need them!
  • It is also useful if you are away on holiday or business in England and you would like to go for a run with other people. As a registered runner, you can look up other running groups in the area you are staying in and book on to their run sessions, a great way to discover new running routes and meet others.
  • Finally, RunTogether often holds competitions and giveaways for runners, the more times you book a session, the better the chance of winning something. They can include prizes such as Aftershokz headphones, LIRF Courses and smaller prizes like packs of KT tape, Runderwear, etc.

Website update

We are in the process of updating the Lions website pages at https://clubspark.englandathletics.org/Lionsrunningcommunity

We updating it with more information about the regular sessions we offer to everyone, brief biographies of who is who on the committee, club kit, where to find policies and a regular newsletter.

Our last newsletter was in 2019, so any and all ideas are welcome for newsletter items.

It is also a useful way of advertising the club to some of the 180,000 active runners in RunTogether who may have moved into the area, here on business, or on holiday in the area and looking for a group to run with on a temporary basis.
