π° August Newsπ°
How is summer already coming to an end? Being the summer holidays, it was a quieter month in terms of official club runs but club members kept themselves busy in many other ways from parkrun touring to running on holiday, plus lots of different races.
At the beginning of the month, TRC was well represented at Christine Ohuruogo’s track night named ‘Mind Your Strides’. The session involved learning different warm-up drills before completing some circuit training. This was then followed by running on the track with an interval session. After the cooldown, the runners got to hold Christine’s medals and get a cheeky snapshot with them… and with her!
In parkrun news, Will continues his touring streak with just 2 parkruns left before he has completed GardDONE of Kent! This month he toured to Basildon, Mote Park, Hastings, Shorne Woods and Victoria Docks. Yat has also nearly completed his next parkrun milestone of 100 runs. He has now ran a very respectable 91 parkruns with touring this month to Catford, Barking, Mile End and Southwark. Gemma and Alex have just started their next parkrun challenge with The Full Ponty, visiting Pontypridd in Wales. In fact, TRC was represented several times at parkruns outside of England this month with: Rachel completing Haverfordwest, Wales; Ana to Vandeleur, Ireland; and, a little further afield, Andrew visiting Bishan parkrun in Singapore! The number of different parkrun’s attended between all club members this month have been admirable, well done to all runners ticking off various new locations whether you have been away for work or pleasure!
Finally, despite the busy diaries, committee members met this month ahead of our AGM in September. This included discussing some innovative ideas of how to take the club forward, borne from feedback of our runners. Keep your eyes pealed for more updates soon! Have you got an idea you wish to share? The Committee would love to hear from you! The very definition of “community” requires us all to play to a role in shaping our club and we welcome all new ideas and suggestions.

βοΈA special mention… βοΈ
The Runner of the Month for August was especially hard to select. So, before we announce who it is, a special mention goes to Jean and Suha who both completed their first ever 10K races this month. As relatively new members of TRC, they have both worked up to the 10K distance during training runs and absolutely gave it their all on the day!
βοΈRunner of the Month βοΈ
Now… August’s Runner of the Month goes to our Run Leader Shelley who, just this morning (31st August), completed the 3-Peaks challenge in less than 24-hours! Shelley’s busy schedule involves running her own fitness classes and leading our Wednesday run’s but somewhere in-between she has managed to train for this massive challenge. Shelley, and her group, first ascended Ben Nevis, Scotland, early Saturday morning before travelling to the Lake District to hike Scafell Pike in, what looked like, challenging conditions overnight. Then they finished off with Snowdon, Wales, in the early hours this morning. This was all to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charity, please see WhatsApp for more details. What a great achievement Shelley, well done!! ππ
