Be Safe #crewinblue

Now that it's so dark when we run on an evening, we thought we'd give you a reminder about some safety guidance that all members of our group need to follow:

  • Please make sure you can see someone else from the group at all times.
  • If you're at the head of the group either make sure you're with someone else or keep looping back before you get out of sight. Looping is great for making sure the less experienced runners aren't left on their own at the back and helps the Run Leaders no end, not to mention increasing your mileage and avoiding time standing still, which in turn will increase your ability to do longer distances without stopping.  When looping it's really helpful if you go slightly further back than the tail runners.
  • If you're at the back of the group, you should never be on your own - that's one of our policies. If you do find yourself falling behind though, don't be afraid to shout up - the person ahead of you might not realise what's happening. Don't wait too long before calling out - you don't want to get so far behind that you can't shout loud enough!
  • Listen to the instructions given by your Run Leaders. Sometimes we'll tell you the full route, sometimes just up to the next meeting point. If you don't understand where we're going, please ask or stay with someone who does know the route.
  • If you can run with a phone - so much the better. Please make sure your contact details are up to date on the RunTogether site and that your volume is turned up so that if we try to call you, you can hear us.
  • Please wear something bright.  This could be a high viz top or a light so that you can be seen. This is one of RunTogether's stipulations.

In addition to these points, RunTogether have put together some useful tips to help you run safely which will ensure you get the maximum enjoyment out of your runs.
