January news from ERC

We have had a fantastic start to a new decade of running here at Earlswood Running Club. We started the year with a tough FIT session on 2 January and haven’t looked back. Here are the highlights of the month…
During our FIT (fun, inclusive training) sessions, we have covered the following:
- 30 second sprint intervals
- 450 metre sprints
- “speed hill” training (as fast as you can up, recover down)
- 450 metre paired relay
- Pyramid training
These sessions are growing in popularity, and the runners are really starting to feel the benefit of coming along. Why not give it a try? You won’t regret it – it’s tough during, but amazing after! Every Thursday at 7.45pm, meeting at Earlswood Baptist Church.
We have also run a very popular 10km training course, which has been perfect preparation for those doing the Cancer Research Winter 10k in London in early February. We have been very lucky with the weather and have covered some great routes. We wish everyone taking part in the event a great race – you have put in the hard work already so now you should be able to enjoy the day.
Our Tuesday social runs have been very well attended in January – we even managed to break our attendance record last week and had 33 runners out! We had one of the more challenging runs accompanied by Storm Brendan earlier in the month – but the strong winds and sideways rain couldn’t deter the hardcore. For reference, we run whatever the weather! We would only ever consider cancelling if it were dangerous to be out. There’s no such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing!
We finished the month with our winter course 1-mile time trial – a new course record of 7:03 was set by James King, and 7 runners achieved a course PB. Well done to everyone who took part!
Looking ahead to February, we want to help you keep your 2020 resolutions going so have a special offer as an incentive to keep you running: run 6 times with us in February and get your next run free.
Happy running,
Kate x
