Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to our run club! Lots of our runners have shared that they were worried about running with a group as they didn't know what to expect. Here at Rebels Runners Runclub we want you to feel as welcome as possible. We hope that this page will answer some worries you may have, but if not, please reach out to one of the leaders and we will answer any questions you have. No question is a silly question!
Q. What days to the club runs take place?
A. Official club runs take place on Tuesday at 630pm at Brigg Lidl, and Thursday at 6pm at Little Acorns nursery in Broughton. We also have unofficial runs on most days each week! Please be aware that run locations do change. Please ensure you check the book in page for updated information regarding where to meet, or feel free to reach out to one of us if you are unsure.
Q. Where are the meeting locations and where can I park?
Here is a photo of Little Acorns Nursery, Brigg Road, Broughton, DN20 0JW. We meet in the carpark. Its a large carpark which has lots of spaces, so makes parking super easy. We are allowed to park in the carpark for as long as needed, with no charges. Around 5.55pm we will all start to get out of our cars (earlier if its warm!) and gather in the carpark. You will know its us as we will be wearing our bright running clothes! The leader will usually be wearing their tshirt with LEADER on the back, and the buddies have RUN BUDDY on the backs of their tshirts. Introduce yourself to one of us, and we will get you signed in!
Here is a photo of Lidl Carpark, Atherton Way, Brigg, DN20 8AR, where we park. It's at the back of the carpark away from most of the traffic. Parking is free in this carpark. When we run, we usually cut through a little hedge and it leads right onto the riverbank . At around 6.25pm we all begin to get out of our cars and meet at at the edge of the carpark at the back. You will know its us as we will be wearing our bright running clothes! The leader will usually be wearing their tshirt with LEADER on the back, and the buddies have RUN BUDDY on the back of their tshirts. Introduce yourself to one of us, and we will get you signed in!
Q. Do you ever run anywhere else?
A. Yes! We love to try new routes and are always up for learning a route that one of our members enjoys. If we ever do a new route or meet somewhere else, we will let people know via email, Facebook and the WhatsApp group. We will ensure we send a photo of the meet up location and let you know about parking. There's nothing more worrying then not knowing where to park!
Q. Are the routes on road or trail?
A. We try to find routes which are on tarmac but with beautiful views, so we get the best of both! In the winter we tend to stick to paths, just because it can be dark in the woods and we know lots of our members feel worried about this. If we are going to do a trail route we will always let you know in advance. If you are worried about going "offroad" please let us know and we will try to support you.
Q. I cant book onto the runs, what do I do?
A. Please contact us and we will help you to get booked on. It's important that you book onto our runs so that we have your emergency contact and health details. This also ensures that you are insured under RunTogether. We can always add you on at the start of the run if you are really struggling, its quite an easy process, but we recommend signing up for the run so we know you are coming. If you are new, we will usually try to send you a text before the run as well, just in case you have any last minute questions!
Q. Do I book onto the "non-official" group runs?
A. No. These are a "run at your own risk" run, organised by other Rebel members. We highly recommend that you let those you are running with know any emergency contact details if needed. Often no leaders are present at these runs, so no first aiders will be present. You are not insured on these runs.
Q. Am I too slow to join you?
A. Definitely not! We have lots of different paces, from those who can run a kilometer in 3 and a half minutes, to those who can run a kilometer in 10 minutes. I promise you that you will never be too slow to run with us, and someone will always run with you. If we are a bigger group, we might split up a little, with the faster ones being in front, but you will never ever be on your own. We love to all have a stop and gather up too- it's nice to have a chat!
Q. How far do I need to be able to run to run with you?
A. Before running on a Tuesday or Thursday, we advise that you can run 5km, regardless of pace. If you are struggling with 5km, why not join our couch to 5km programme? Please check our runs for our upcoming courses.
Q. Do you run any other courses?
A. Yes we do a 5-10km programme and are considering a 10km-half marathon programme also. We are also looking into doing beginners speed work. Please keep an eye on our facebook and wesbite for upcoming courses.
Q. How much does it cost to join Rebels?
A. It's completely free! Running with friends shouldn't cost money! We all run because we love running and want to spread the joy <3.
Q. Do you have club kit?
A. We have Rebel hoodies, which are £30 and can be ordered from Samtony's in Scunthorpe, which is on Dunstall Street. The lady has a facebook page and you can order from her directly. We now have our blue club tshirts. Our specific couch to 5k tshirts are kindly sponsored by Pepperells, and our club tshirts are sponsored by Singleton Birch. This allows us to allow our members to really feel a part of a team without having to pay lots and lots of money. If you'd like a club T-shirt please contact one of us and we will advise you.
Q. What should I wear to club runs?
A. We would recommend that you wear shorts/leggings and a sports t-shirt, weather dependent. I would always advise you wear more layers, as you can always take them off, and one of the leaders/buddies are happy to hold things for you. In the winter it's mandatory that you wear a head torch/body torch so that you are safe and seen, and so that you can see! Reflective clothing in the winter is also advised. A good pair of trainers is always worth it. We recommend you check out Metres to Miles in Epworth, where you can get a 10% discount if you mention you run with us!
Q. I cant afford the proper running clothes, what can I do?
A. We have a hardship fund which is available to those who need it. This is a confidential service to allow you to participate in running, whatever your financial situation. Please contact one of the leaders and we will send you the application form and further information.
Q. Help I'm injured! What can I do?
A. None of us at Rebel's are doctors or Physio's so cannot advise you as to whether you should run or not if you have an injury. However, Ian McBride, based in Scunthorpe, is an excellent Physio which many of us have used previously. He offers Rebels 10% discount with the code RRC10 when booking online.
Q. I don't know anyone, will I be on my own?
A. Many of us never knew one another prior to running with Rebels, but we are now firm friends! We are quite a loud bunch and love welcoming new runners. You will soon feel at ease with us and fit right in.
Q. Is there a WhatsApp group?
A. Yes! It is very active- we all love a good chat. Please ask a leader to add you into the group.
Q. Can my dog come on the run?
A. Yes of course! Please contact leaders Emma or Kathryn if you have any questions about bringing your dogs to runs with you.
Q. Can my children come running with me?
A. Children over the age of 12 years are able to join our runs. Unfortunately we are not insured for children under the age of 12.
Q. I struggle with my mental health, will running help?
A. We are not trained mental health professionals, however, we do run with many people who struggle with their mental health, and all have experiences ourselves. Our view is that running has a positive impact upon mental health, however, please always consult your doctor if you take any medication.
