Long Eaton Running Club’s Couch to 5K (C25K) programme is a friendly, supportive way to take your first steps into running. Designed for complete beginners or those returning after a break, the programme gradually builds you up to running 5 kilometres over 9 weeks. You’ll be guided every step of the way by qualified Leaders in Running Fitness and volunteers, in a relaxed and encouraging environment .
Because the sessions involve physical activity, we ask that you don’t attend if you’re injured or feeling unwell. Your health and safety always come first.
Who are we?
We’re Long Eaton Running Club, and we’re passionate about helping people get active, build confidence, and enjoy being outdoors. Our C25K sessions are led by an experienced and enthusiastic coaching team who know exactly how to support new runners—no pressure, no judgement, just encouragement and enjoyment .
Our experience
We’ve been running learner programmes since 2012, usually twice a year, and they’ve been hugely successful. Many graduates go on to run regularly in ways that suit them, some enjoy a weekly parkrun, others progress to 10K, half marathons, marathons, and even ultras. Many join Long Eaton Running Club, while others simply gain the confidence to run independently whenever and wherever they choose. A number of past graduates even return to support new groups as volunteers, offering advice and inspiration, proof of just how welcoming the community is .
What to expect
Each weekly session includes:
Registration and a chance to ask questions
A group warm-up
The main walk/run session
A cool-down and stretch
The programme builds gradually, and everyone runs at their own pace and ability. There are no speed targets and no expectations, just steady progress, week by week. We support you throughout the full 9 weeks, with the goal of completing a 5K run at the end of the programme, typically at the free, community-based Long Eaton parkrun. Graduation day is always a highlight!
What to wear and bring
Sessions take place at West Park, which is open to the public, so visibility is important, especially as evenings are dark. Hi-vis running bibs and chest / head lights are strongly recommended. Wear comfortable trainers, dress in layers, and consider a hoody for before and after the sessions. No fancy kit needed, comfort is key .
We look forward to welcoming you.
Please note it is essential you register for all the weeks you are able to attend.
