Wixams Runners

Welcome to the Wixams Runners community group!

It started with a post on Facebook from Andy, ‘Anyone fancy meeting regularly for a run?’ So, three of us met up on a frosty December evening, donning high vis & thermals, about a week before Christmas, for our first maiden run.

There was Andy (owner of the post), Olly (the PT guy) & me, little old nursey who quite likes running. We started running around Dane Lane Lake, on those frosty December evenings, which I’m sure amused the resident Swans.

After the ground thawed, we ventured out on different routes across Wixams, exploring the new constructed paths, roads & parks which started to appear over the last 19 months. More people joined & expanded the group. As the nicer weather kicked in we took to the surrounding fields and country foot paths, which was great to see Wixams from afar.

Wixams is a great area to run, especially now more roads have opened. Some of the parks are not very well lit yet. So, running these parks with as a group feels safer & makes it more enjoyable to run in the evenings.

The group is centred on supporting people get fit through running, it has also helped people achieve new distances – all whilst running a comfortable “chatty pace”. It has also supported our local runners who trained for distances and races like the London Marathon, ‘Well Done! Sarah’; and all who ran last year’s event
