Couch to 5K
What is C25K?
The “Couch to 5K” (C25K) programme combines walking and running, which makes it perfect for beginners or anyone returning to running after a break!
Our expert coaches, run leaders and fellow club members will support you every step of the way through this proven and NHS-endorsed programme, gradually increasing your running time and distance each week.
If you’ve ever thought “I’m too slow” — you absolutely aren’t. You can do this, and we’ll help you.
What you can expect from the programme
- A friendly, supportive atmosphere
- 10 week programme - 9 week training plan, plus a celebratory 5k graduation run at week 10
- “Homework” runs - twice a week with support from the C25K app and your peers
Ready to take the first step?
Our next course begins on Sunday 11th January 2026 @9.00am.
Register your interest for future cohorts by emailing membership@newburnrunningclub.co.uk.
C25K Graduate Testimonials
C25K is truly a great way to become more active, build your confidence and even have a little fun along the way with friendly and supportive like-minded people.
Many of our current members started right here — and now run 5k, 10k, half marathons and more. Here what they have to say:
The C25K need not be a lonely journey. NRC gave me support and motivation to get me walking, jogging, and finally, running. It's not just the feeling of fitness that made me join the club. It's the people, the fun run nights, and being part of something pretty special. Iain, C25K 2023 Graudate
Having flirted on and off with running for the last 3 decades, a half marathon here and a marathon there and following an accident, I decided to explore taking up running in a more structured and supported way. Happenchance I saw a flier for Newburn Running Club’s Couch 2 5K in October 2024 so I enrolled not knowing what I had let myself in for or what to expect of myself. What I found was that I was less of a runner and more of a plodder but I felt welcome, encouraged, supported and motivated to improve my running abilities. So…..I joined NRC and in the last year have improved my running skills and fitness further at my own pace with weekly runs and training sessions. I’ve even just completed my LiRF training. The club has such a feeling of community, inclusivity encouragement and purpose that it’s difficult to imagine not having it as part of my life.
