Our 12 week Couch to Trail 5K Starter Programme is designed especially for complete beginners with no running experience required.
At Bedfordshire Trail Runners, we believe running should be fun, social, and achievable for everyone. Over 12 weeks, we take you from walking to confidently running your first 5K on scenic Bedfordshire trails without pressure, judgement, or confusing training plans.
Why Our Programme Works for Beginners
Unlike a standard Couch to 5K, our plan uses a slower progression to reduce the risk of injury, burnout, or giving up. You build stamina gradually, learning to enjoy the process instead of rushing to the finish line.
Here’s how it works:

Weekly Group Run – Tuesdays at 6:00 pm
Meet at Dunstable Downs next to Zeera Indian Restaurant for a friendly, coached group run. -
Two “Homework” Runs – Thursday & Saturday
Short solo runs to help you stay on track and build confidence. -
12 Weeks, One Big Achievement
By the end, you will be able to run 5K on beautiful countryside trails even if you have never run a step before.
What You’ll Need
- Comfortable clothing and supportive running shoes
- In winter: High-vis gear and a head torch
- In summer: Water to stay hydrated
- A positive attitude (we supply the motivation)
